Your Guide to Financing Fertility Medications
Mariana Fernández, a yoga and running instructor at Peloton, sits down with Dr. Jason Kofinas, the Director of IVF & Research at Kofinas Fertility Group and a double board certified Reproductive Endocrinologist. Together they discuss questions Mariana had about egg freezing, different fertility journeys, and how to make the experience a little easier for patients.
Back in 2017, Mariana Fernández, a fitness instructor who teaches yoga and running to thousands of people on the Peloton's online fitness platform, realized she wanted to chart her family building path on her own terms.
"I started my fertility journey almost 8 years ago when I was 33 years old. I came out of a long term relationship and feared what it meant to not have a partner when I knew I wanted the possibility to be a mother."
However, the path to potential parenthood wasn't so straightforward.
"For 7 years I toggled with the idea of fertility options, but didn't have the appropriate resources for information and felt too lost when I looked on the internet. After trial and error and navigating my own misunderstandings, I finally found proper guidance and a doctor that I trusted to guide me to give me options at 38 years old. I finally felt trust and knowledge in what I could do as a woman at this point in my personal and professional life."
Many women face similar roadblocks when trying to decide which options are right for their future family. Fertility treatment can be complicated and confusing. Mariana wants to change the script, and make this journey an empowering experience for other patients like herself. So, Prima has connected Mariana with a fertility expert, Dr. Jason Kofinas, the Director of IVF & Research at Kofinas Fertility Group and a double board certified Reproductive Endocrinologist to answer all the questions she has had about egg freezing and the egg retrieval process.
In this upcoming interview series, Mariana interviews Dr. Jason Kofinas about all of the questions she wished she had asked before freezing her eggs. If you're thinking about taking the next step in your fertility journey, we think you'll have some of the same questions.
"Because my path took many turns, I wish I had the option to have this conversation and remove the taboo regarding our own fertility. I keep learning, but am grateful I reached a point to feel confident in my fertility journey."
We're excited to share Mariana and Dr. Kofinas's conversation, and we hope this interview series helps you feel more confident, too.
