so you feel equipped to tackle it on your own.
THERE ARE TWO DIFFERENT TYPES OF INJECTIONS:

Subcutaneous (SQ)

Subcutaneous Injections are injected just under the skin — either in the front of your thigh or the lower stomach area — with a small, short needle.

Step-By-Step

Wash your hands, and clean the injection area with an alcohol swab.

If your medication require mixing, follow the instructions provided and prepare the medication.

Once the medication is ready, pinch the skin in the injection area (typically the stomach or the outer thigh).

Once you remove the needle from your skin, press down on the injection site with a cotton swab or gauze.

EXPERT TIP

Ice the area before injecting to numb it slightly. You can also alternate injection sites every night to prevent irritation.

Medications Included

Intramuscular (IM)

Intramuscular Injections are injected into the muscle area — typically in the upper outer part of the glutes. These injections use a slightly longer needle in order to reach the muscle. While it may sound scary, there are tips to handle it with ease.

Step-By-Step

Stretch the skin in the injection area (typically the thigh or the buttocks), and insert the needle straight into the skin at a ninety degree angle.

EXPERT TIP

Use a hot towel or heating pad alongside the progesterone shots. Heat loosens the muscle!
