Gonal-F is a Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH) used to stimulate the growth of follicles in your ovaries to produce more eggs. It’s injected just under the skin on your thigh or lower stomach area. Some clinics or doctors will prescribe Follistim as an alternative.
Use a different area of the body for every dose. This will help prevent discomfort and pain during injections.
FAQs
Answers to common questions.
Do I need to refrigerate Gonal-f immediately?
Gonal-f should be refrigerated when it gets delivered to your doorstep. However, it can last up to three months if left at room temperature. If kept in the refrigerator, Gonal-f will last until the expiration date. You can store Gonal-f after using it in the refrigerator or at room temperature for up to 28 days.
How can I reduce any bruising?
You can reduce your changes of bruising when you pinch your skin prior to injecting. After you insert the needle, release your fingers as you inject the medication. Using your index finger instead of your thumb will help you control the injection better. It's also important that you insert the needle at a 90 degree angle.
Can I reuse my pen?
Yes, use a new pen needle between doses until there is no additional medication left in the pen.
How can I prevent bleeding after injecting Gonal-f?
Apply gauze or a cotton ball onto the injection site with a small amount of pressure for about 30 seconds to stop any bleeding from occurring.
Can I travel on a flight with Gonal-f?
Yes, you can travel with Gonal-f. We recommend storing the medication in a plastic bag and packing the medication with an ice pack. You can include a note from your doctor about why you need to keep your medication refrigerated. If you plan to use Gonal-f within twenty eight days, you can keep the medication at room temperature.
